Forbidden Planet presents… Chip Kidd, Bat-Manga!: The Secret History of Batman in Japan

In 1966, during the height of the first Batman craze, a weekly Japanese manga anthology for boys, Shonen King, licensed the rights to commission its own Batman and Robin stories. They were never collected in Japan, and never translated into English. Now, in Bat-Manga! hundreds of pages of Batman-manga comics are translated for the first time, appearing alongside stunning photos of the world’s most comprehensive collection of vintage Japanese Batman toys. Chip Kidd, an award-winning graphic designer and best-selling writer will discuss Bat-Manga! at the Strand with the book’s translator Anne Ishii, the book’s photographer Geoff Spear and Batman-collector Saul Ferris, who supplied much of the memorabilia featured in the book. This is the ONLY appearance all four contributors to the book will be making.

When: October 28 07:00PM - 08:30PM
Where: The Strand, 828 Broadway, NYC

An emerging trend? PS3 to be Skate 2 lead platform

As a result, more companies have begun to use the PS3 as the lead development platform, and EA’s Black Box is now on that list, as the company has announced that the PS3 will be the lead platform for Skate 2.

Sony says PlayStation 3 sales better than expected

Sony Corp’s PlayStation 3 video game console and its portable cousin, the PSP, are selling faster than expected and are poised to meet full-year sales targets even if the current economic crisis hurts holiday demand, Sony said on Wednesday.

Driven by solid demand by video games, and the appeal of the Blu-ray disc movie system built into the devices, PlayStation 3 sales are some 30 percent better than Sony’s plan so far in its fiscal year, according to Jack Tretton, Chief Executive of Sony Computer Entertainment of America.

Nintendo Announce New DS: The Nintendo DSi

During their Fall Press Conference today, Nintendo have - as expected - announced a new version of the Nintendo DS. Called the Nintendo DSi, it eschews the GBA slot (boo!) in favour of a slight downsizing (it’s a little thinner) and a range of improvements. The handheld’s screens have been enlarged, and will now be 17% bigger (at 3.25 inches) than those found on the DS Lite. As for the rumoured additions, both have proven to be correct, with “audio enhancements” made to the handheld, while it will also now include a .3 megapixel (640×480) camera. And that’s just the start of it.
